“Because our whole is greater than the sum of our parts” ✰✰✰✰✰ /5
I read this book almost a year ago and it’s one of the greatest books I’ve read in my life. It’s the reason that I’ve become so stingy with my stars 🙂
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo is a book within a book, and a story wrapped into another. It’s a Taylor Jenkins Reid masterpiece. I can’t even try to explain the story to you, so I won’t. All I’m going to give you is a spoiler free review. (I highly recommend going into it completely blind)
The one thing I will say is that the story is not about Evelyn’s seven husbands, it’s about Evelyn Hugo herself. It’s about her life and how the people around her made her feel empowered to use what was hers to get what she wanted.
The story is about glamor, fame, love, and scandal in hollywood. It’s about self expression and the pressures put on women to be a certain way. Above all, it is a real and raw look at someone chasing their dreams and paying whatever price they must to achieve them.
The story teaches you that going after what you want is important, but it shows that what you want may not be what you need.
I’ve never read a book with such an amazing character, Evelyn Hugo is such an incredibly complex, and unapologetically strong female character, she feels way too real to only be fictional. I truly got completely lost in her story which was heartbreaking and heart wrenching, but also inspiring, intriguing and entertaining.
If you haven’t already, read this book! Make sure you check trigger warnings first! Happy reading 🙂
